Sri Lanka’s leading mobility app, PickMe, has expanded beyond transport by introducing PickMe Explore, a new platform designed to help travellers discover experiences across the island. The first destination featured on the platform is Colombo Connect, a curated guide showcasing the capital’s culture, food, shopping, nightlife, and entertainment.

News from Sri Lanka

The new service aims to make it easier for both international visitors and local travellers to plan their time in Sri Lanka through one digital platform. Rather than simply offering transport, PickMe Explore combines attractions, experiences, and travel recommendations into a single app, allowing users to explore destinations more conveniently.

What is Colombo Connect?

As the flagship destination of PickMe Explore, Colombo Connect brings together a selection of the city’s most popular attractions and experiences. Visitors can browse recommendations for:

  • Restaurants and cafés
  • Shopping destinations
  • Cultural landmarks
  • Entertainment venues
  • Nightlife experiences
  • Family-friendly attractions

The goal is to encourage travellers to spend more time exploring Colombo while making it easier for local businesses to reach new customers.

A step towards digital tourism

PickMe has become one of Sri Lanka’s largest technology companies, processing millions of journeys through its platform. By expanding into tourism, the company is positioning itself as more than a ride-hailing service, creating a digital ecosystem that connects transportation with travel experiences.

For tourists, this means fewer apps are needed to navigate a city. For businesses, it offers an additional channel to attract visitors through a platform already widely used across Sri Lanka.

What could this mean for Sri Lanka?

Initiatives like PickMe Explore reflect a broader shift towards digital tourism services in Sri Lanka. As the country works to attract more international visitors, integrated platforms that combine transport, attractions, and local experiences can improve the overall visitor experience while increasing visibility for smaller tourism businesses.

If the concept proves successful in Colombo, PickMe is expected to expand the Explore platform to other destinations around the island, giving travellers a more connected way to experience Sri Lanka’s beaches, cultural sites, wildlife, and regional attractions.
